Sidenote: the -a don't retain the color flag I use to organize things in finder. Since you are more familiar with rsync do you know if there is an option to give me the estimated time? Also, could I design a script, use automator to deploy it at logon and also have a visual interpretation of what is happening/ or a summary of success, or at least a result of job done vs errors? Is this something that can be done? I'm currently looking for dry run options because I want to truly sync (deleting old files). Tested also the P flag, where you can see a more detailed info. The output reminded me old DOS where you see some lines of which is copying at the moment. I just tested this wtih 2GB local to local and took about a second. Something like rsync -v –a SourceDirectory DestinationDirectory I was trying to copy maintaining timestamps atributes and verbose. Specially considering I'm not familiar with rsync commands.

That why a visual progress or summary is so important for me. Set it and forget it.īut I need to be reassured that files are being backed up as I meant to be, and if, something goes wrong, volume not online, stuck file being in used, etc, I'll be notified about it. run a script at login and give a visual output of the running process or alert me to errors?

Thanks!!ĭo you think using Homebrew version of rsync have the ability to: Right now I'm doing some tests if different scenarios trying to figure it out the culprit. Not sure if -zsh have something to do with it, as the tutorial was meant to the other one. Tried following a tutorial online w/o success. Not sure why, but indeed, the rsync version is very old. I've read about that a couple weeks back. I use the Homebrew-distributed version of rsync

Update: downloaded trial Chronosync today, the UI looks very polished, let's see if it holds 🙌 Let me know if you have any more ideas, I'm always open to a change in the workflow if needed. I don't use the cloud service directly because the images being saved on the cloud are not the originals, they are an export of a lossy file.

(I've tried qnap own software for synchronization but they are not reliable and also I can have an active one-way sync but not a two-way sync which sometimes I need) In the end, the folder ABC has to be synced so that the folder 2021 are exact match on two volumes. Images being deleted, tif files being creating etc. I will make changes thru out the day on that folder. Yes, that's right, I'm using different volumes inside a NAS: user acess folder "ABC" which is inside folder "Location" which is inside folder "2021". If you could point me out on the right direction that would be awesome!!ĭidn't knew that one, will check it out, huge thanks. To messy and no output to keep an eye on things. Sidenote: Yes, there is rsync terminal input and I could create a script, I've tried that, didn't get along very well. I will buy the software, just want to make sure it is future proof and it is optimised for M1.Ī) Chronosync Express - the rating is quite low, and don't seem to be arm64 based versionī) Goodsync - the name rings a bell, I think I've already tried that on windowsĬ) CarbonCopy - it might be overkill but if it comes to that, so be itĭ) Duplicati - I think it is more a backup solution rather that syncing but ok (I'm thinking that the app could be rsync based so I could be rest assured it would be best integrated with macOS, it this a valid point or not so much?) Of course I've searched but there are to many options out there, haven't found a compreehensive review, there is no consensus on the best one. I can do it by hand but I believe that should be a solution out there that meet the criteria. It is crucial to me to have a batch or a schedule task for it to happen automatically.

Some folders can have 500GB worth of data. The dev is a great guy, and I have tested out the arm64 version which at the time was still in beta and it worked ok, but if I want to move +50GB files it is a problem. I have numerous crash logs, it's a disaster.

I've been using FreeFileSync in my windows machines and it works great. I've been looking around for quite a while for an app that can sync folders (one way and two way) and keep them updated for macOS optimised for M1.
